CEBU – Belgian-Filipina Louise Tan Theunis of the Cebu Doctor’s University (CDU) topped this year’s pharmacist board exam with a score of 91.55 percent.
The 19-year-old who graduated Magna cum laude said she did not expect to secure the top spot.
"It's just consistency, studying everyday and make sure you have your schedule and stick to it. Just really work hard and make an effort, teach yourself and make sure you understand,” Theunis said.
Out of 4,230 takers all over the Philippines, only 2,927 passed the board exam.
Born in Zamboanga City, Theunis’ father has a PhD in entomology while her mother worked for a foreign research institute in the past.
"I look up to him (dad) and my mom is also a smart person, she had a hard life and she was poor yet she was still able to graduate as cum laude and landed a researcher job. So I just look up to my parents so much and I also wanted to keep on striving to serve as an inspiration to my brothers as well for them also to keep on going,” Theunis added.
Apart from excelling in school, Theunis is also a beauty queen. In 2016, she won first runner-up in the Ms. Mandaue pageant in Cebu. She also joined Ms. Intramurals in their school, placing first runner-up as well.
Meanwhile, apart from Theunis, a graduate of the University of San Carlos in Cebu also was included in the board exams Top 10.
Danixzyle Sevillano Cutamora got 90.88 percent rating, placing 8th.
