MANILA—Sen. Manny Pacquiao said Wednesday he agrees with Senate President Vicente Sotto III on leaving Jesus Christ out of the debates on the reimposition of death penalty in the country.“Ibahin natin 'yung topic o usapin pagdating sa death penalty na hindi madrag 'yung pangalan ng ating Panginoong Hesukristo,” Pacquiao told reporters at a PDP-Laban event in Makati City.Senators on Tuesday began debates on proposals to revive the death penalty. Sen. Franklin Drilon said even Jesus Christ was a victim of wrongful execution. He added that judges and justices, being humans, are fallible and could render decisions that could cost people’s lives.For Sotto, a successful demand reduction strategy, and not death penalty, is the best way to curb the country’s illegal drug problem. But Pacquiao countered by saying that the public must trust the government and authorities and support efforts to reform the judiciary. He expects the bill to undergo an extensive discussion in the Senate."Magkakaroon talaga 'yan ng mahabang discussion,” Pacquiao said.
