MANILA - The legal adviser of Patricia Bautista, estranged spouse of Commission on Elections Chairman Andres Bautista, belied allegations that her client is having an illicit affair.
According to Atty. Lorna Kapunan, the estranged wife of the Comelec chief has a "third eye" and belongs to a society of the similarly gifted.
"Patricia is a very gifted person. Meron siyang tinatawag na third eye. She belongs to a society of similarly gifted," Kapunan told ABS-CBN's UKG.
This, she said, is where Patricia met the man whom the Comelec chief suspects she is having an affair with.
But Atty. Kapunan explained that her client was not having an affair with the man as they only meet during the society's gatherings.
"Doon niya nakilala itong alleged third party. Pero it is a whole society. They meet. Kung may ebidensiya si Sir Andy, ilabas na niya.," she said.
The lawyer said things became awkward between the couple when Bautista started to work for the government and he would not disclose all his earnings.
Kapunan said Patricia would just be surprised when she hears about properties and shares in stocks when her husband started working as a public official.
"Hindi na niya alam magkano suweldo ng asawa niya. Nagugulat na lang siya may mga sinasabing properties at share sa stocks," she said.
Patricia would soon discover documents related to these properties and transactions in a safe in their conjugal house.
Among these are Bautista's bank and real property documents, and passbooks not included in his 2016 statement of assets, liabilities and net worth.
"All of these, she found inside a safe that she did not break open. Meron siyang susi e. Nasa conjugal room nila sa bahay nila," she said.
Patricia has since gone public with the accusations, and has already submitted an affidavit alleging that Bautista "might have had, or currently has, misdealing and corrupt practices while in government service."
Kapunan said the Comelec chief should give the public an explanation about what his wife discovered as this is already a matter of national interest.
"Chairman, magpakalalaki ka na lang. He is always hiding under the guise that this is a simple family case. This has gone beyond a marital conflict. This is a question of national interest," she said.
