NORTH COTABATO - The Moro Islamic Liberation Front, under its Eastern Mindanao Front, led the uprooting of full grown marijuana plants in a remote area at Sitio Sinipitan Barangay Tupig in Carmen town of North Cotabato.

Abdullah Hamsa, former 108th Base Commander of the MILF and now the Executive Director of Tri People Mindanao, a civil society organization, was tapped by his fellow MILF members after receiving reports that there is a marijuana plantation in the said area.

They then went to check the place over the weekend to verify the report.

Hamsa and his companions discovered a two-hectare marijuana plantation with full grown marijuana that appeared ready for harvest.

The General Staff of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces immediately instructed them to uproot the plants.

The area is located in between cornfields and banana trees near the river.

They were unable to apprehend the owner and have not seen any caretaker in the area.

However, some locals tending their farmlands near the said plantation were hesitant to give any details on the identity of the growers of the marijuana.

Hamsa says the MILF is already conducting an investigation on the issue.

MILF BIAF Spokesperson Von Al-Haq confirmed the operation brought out by the BIAF forces and said that it was an effort on the part of the MILF to show their continuous support to the government's war versus illegal drugs.

The seized uprooted marijuana plants have been burned.

The municipality of Carmen is part of the area of responsibility of MILF's Eastern Mindanao Front.
