MANILA - Flash floods spawned by heavy rains ravaged five villages in Sultan Mastura, Maguindanao early Sunday.

Some 200 families were affected as knee-high flood waters rose in barangays Solon, Kirkir, Takirin, Simuay Seashore and Nemuken.

Jun Galan Sultan of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) said the dike in Simuay River collapsed due to incessant rains brought by an Intertropical Convergence Zone.

The MDRRMC and ARMM humanitarian emergency action distributed food packs among the families who left their homes for safer grounds.
