(UPDATE) A 5.6-magnitude earthquake shook Davao Occidental Saturday midnight, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The tectonic tremor occurred at 12:10 a.m. at a depth of 143 kilometers northeast of Jose Abad Santos town.
Phivolcs initially reported the quake measured in at 5.3 in magnitude.
Instrumental intensity 3 was felt in Alabel and Kiamba in Sarangani province and General Santos City in South Cotabato while instrumental intensity 2 was recorded in Tupi, South Cotabato.
Phivolcs said the moderately strong quake will trigger aftershocks, but is not expected to cause damage.—With a report from Clarabelle Cornelio, ABS-CBN News
