MANILA - The University of the Philippines announced Friday that it was extending the deadline for submission of the UPCAT (University of the Philippines College Admission Test) application forms for Metro Manila public high schools until Monday, August 6.
"The Office of Admissions is still open for processing applications today," UPCAT-UP System stated in its Facebook post Friday.
UP was prompted to extend the deadline after the class suspension on Friday due to flooding in some areas in Metro Manila.
The deadline of submission of application forms for Metro Manila private high schools was last July 30, while the Friday, August 3, was supposed to be the last day of submission for Metro Manila public schools.
Submission of applications from regional private and public schools is until August 10.
On Monday, UP said this year saw a record number of applicants, perhaps enticed by the free tuition.
UP Vice President for Public Affairs Dr. Jose Dalisay, Jr. said the number of applicants went up from 103,000 to 167,000 for academic year 2019-2020.
