Suspected drug personality Kerwin Espinosa

MANILA (UPDATED) - Suspected drug personality Kerwin Espinosa, the son of Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa, Sr., has left the country late June.

Sources said the younger Espinosa left the country on June 21 on a Cebu Pacific flight bound for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

There have been no records of his return entry to the Philippines.

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) earlier said Espinosa left for Hong Kong last June 1, after allegedly undergoing facial plastic surgery.

PNP spokesperson Dionardo Carlos told ANC that they are checking various leads to find Kerwin.

"There have been different reports pertaining to his possible location and these leads are being looked at by the PNP. We believe that with these information, we'll be able to get to and locate Kerwin and comply with the instruction of the President," he said.

He added that it was Kerwin's father who confirmed that his son underwent a facial surgery, but only to have his nose fixed.

"It was a revelation from Mayor Espinosa during the press con with the Chief PNP that Kerwin, the son, made some facial surgery and he said that it was more of a fixing of the nose. Even the father, the mayor, said he had his nose fixed, similar to what Kerwin had done already," Carlos said.

President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday urged the Espinosas to surrender within 24 hours or be "shot on sight."

Only Espinosa Sr. surrendered to authorities Tuesday, as he admitted that his son is a top drug trafficker in Eastern Visayas. In a press conference in Camp Crame with Philippine National Police Chief, Director General Ronald dela Rosa, Espinosa Sr. also asked his son to surrender or else face the consequences of his actions.

He is scheduled to appear before the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) at Camp Crame, Quezon City.

Meanwhile, six people were killed in an encounter on Wednesday between policemen and the alleged hired underlings of a Leyte town mayor accused of coddling drug rings.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed that all six fatalities were Espinosa Sr.'s men, who supposedly shot it out with anti-narcotics cops in Sitio Tinago, Barangay Binolho at around 5:30 a.m.

Carlos said police forces were patrolling the village when they were ambushed by the suspects near the mayor's three adjoining houses.
