MANILA - Basilan Rep. Mujiv Hataman said Saturday he and his wife have tested positive for COVID-19.
In a Facebook post, Hataman said he and his wife, Isabela City Mayor Sitti Djalia A Turabin Hataman, took the coronavirus test on Thursday after experiencing what they thought was ordinary cough.
"Bumalik na ang resulta. Positive kami pareho," he said.
(The results show we're both positive.)
The couple's children and everyone in their Basilan household also got tested and are awaiting results.
Hataman said they were in quarantine and have taken measures to ensure the safety of their home.
"Nagpapatupad na rin ng mas mahigpit na health protocols para ma-contain na ito at masiguradong hindi na tumawid pa palabas ng aming pamilya ang sakit," he said.
(We have enforced stringent health protocols to contain this and ensure the disease won't infect others outside the family.)
Hataman said they have been complying with safety measures and yet still contracted the disease.
"Tunay nga: Sa ganitong mga panahon, magkakarugtong ang kalusugan at kapalaran nating lahat," he said.
(It's true: At a time like this, the health and fate of everyone are connected.)
Earlier, another lawmaker and staffers at the House of Representatives tested positive for the virus.
