MANILA -- The Supreme Court must act swiftly on a petition to issue a temporary restraining order against the planned ban against provincial buses on EDSA, its proponent said Wednesday.

AKO Bicol party-list Rep. Alfredo Garbin Jr. said he filed the "urgent motion" on Tuesday, ahead of the Aug. 6 dry run of the bus ban by the Metro Manila Development Authority.

The ban will add to the hardships of the poor from the provinces, who have no other means to get to the capital except by bus, Garbin told ANC's Headstart.

"Most of the 95 percent of our commuters take the bus, that's the cheapest mode of transportation in going to Manila. Tatamaan talaga yung 95 porsyento ng ating populasyon na mahihirap, na walang ibang masakyan kung 'di yung mura--yun ang mga bus," Garbin said.

(This will hit the 95 percent of our population who are poor and have no other cheap alternative to taking the bus.)

"If you want to really address traffic along EDSA, targetin yung kolorum, mga illegal terminals (target the illegal terminals)," he said.
