MANILA—The reward for capturing the perpetrators behind the murders of 4 policemen in Ayungon town, Negros Oriental has been raised to P5 million, Malacañang said on Wednesday.
According to Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo, President Rodrigo Duterte upped the bounty for catching those responsible for the crime, dead or alive.
A reward of P100,000 will also be given for the capture of each of those involved in the incident, Panelo said.
The President issued a stern warning against members of the New People's Army (NPA), who he said is exploiting the land unrest in the province "and turned the province into a quasi-state."
"The Chief Executive is cautioning the enemies of the state in the island of Negros that he will use his emergency powers under the Constitution to quell the lawless violence engulfing the island, as well as to crush all forms of threats aimed to destroy the government," Panelo said in a statement.
"The President vows to replicate the atrocious acts done by the communist rebels to the civilians, the barangay officials and the law enforcers against these murderers in defense of our countrymen."
The reward money was initially at P1.3 million, later raised to P3 million.
The 4 policemen were allegedly killed and tortured by members of the NPA last July 18 in Ayungon town.
A spate of killings in the province followed soon after.
