BAGUIO - A Filipino died while 5 Chinese nationals were injured after their vehicle fell into a 400-meter ravine in Bokod town, Benguet on Saturday afternoon.
The Filipino, identified as Jonathan Carnaje, was pronounced dead on arrival at the district hospital.
The five passengers and their Filipino driver are employees of a construction company in Pasig City. They were on their way home from a quick hike in Mount Pulag in Kabayan, Benguet when the accident happened.
Police investigation revealed the incident happened as the SUV approached a sharp curve on the road.
Yan Kaihua, one of the passengers, noticed that the fog made it hard for their driver to see the road.
“I felt that the car sped and just lost control. Suddenly the car crashed down the road. I shouted ‘everybody’s okay?’ I saw that all my friends are awake but all are injured,” Yan said.
The residents in the area immediately called for rescue. The victims were first brought to Dennis Molintas District Hospital but are now confined at the Baguio General Hospital Medical Center.
Chinese Consul and Head of Post to Laoag Zhou Youbin visited the patients early Wednesday.
