MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte has transferred former Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) chairman Franklin Demonteverde to the Judicial and Bar Council and appointed a former military official to the regulating body.
Demonteverde, a retired judge, was appointed last July 19 as representative of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines to the JBC, a document released by Malacañang Wednesday showed.
The JBC is the constitutional body tasked to screen applicants for the judiciary.
Retired Lieutenant Gen. Emmanuel Salamat meanwhile was appointed as MWSS board member. Salamat is the former chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Northern Luzon Command.
The President also reappointed MWSS vice-chairperson and administrator Reynaldo Velasco.
Last June, Velasco said he would assume the chairmanship of the MWSS as Demonteverde would be transferred to the JBC.
Duterte had fumed at the MWSS due to the water shortage in Metro Manila's east zone earlier this year and for failing to prepare for El Niño, a weather pattern associated with reduced rainfall which has been affecting several parts of the country.
