MANILA (UPDATED) - Authorities recaptured Monday night a man who was among the 23 detainees who bolted from Bacoor City Custodial Center, a police official said.

Bacoor City police chief Vicente Cabatingan identified the detainee as Jene Lloyd Teano Bernabe, who is allegedly one of the two inmates who planned the escape.

"Palagi niya sinasabi, "Kapag nagkaroon ng pagkakataon, tatakas tayo." Kinokondisyon niya utak ng mga kasama. Kapag daw makalabas, magkikita-kita sila at siya na raw bahala sa mga ito," he said.

Bernabe was caught in Baclaran, Parañaque City while meeting his former live-in partner and new girlfriend. He is facing charges for forcible abduction with rape.

When interviewed by ABS-CBN News, the detainee denied allegations he was behind the jailbreak.

"Paano ko sila kukumbinsihin eh ako ang pinakabata. Ang totoo nga niyan, ako ang napasama nung nagtakbuhan sila," he said.

As of Tuesday, some 8 detainees remain at large. They are identified as Ariel Villacampa, Kevin Riano, Marcelino Ruiz, Michael Salac, Junmarco Castro, Richard Manatad, Jason Daniel, and Roland Ramirez.

The other 15 have either surrendered to police or were arrested following a manhunt operation. - with reports from Bianca Dava and Ernie Manio, ABS-CBN News
