MANILA (UPDATED) - An escapee from the Bacoor City Custodial Center surrendered Tuesday, while some 7 detainees remained at large.
Kevin Riano surrendered to the Philippine National Police-Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG) upon the prodding of his relatives.
He is the 16th detainee who is now under police custody after the inmates bolted the detention center in Cavite on Friday, July 27.
The 20-year-old security guard was arrested on June 7 for illegal discharge of firearm.
Riano told ABS-CBN News that he only followed the other detainees when the jailbreak happened.
"Sumama lang po ako noong maglabasan sila," he said.
Riano said he roamed and slept on the streets since his escape.
He went home Monday and was told by relatives to surrender to authorities.
According to PNP-DEG spokesperson Enrico Rigo, the detainee's sibling helped faciliate Riano's surrender.
"Ang isang tao natin ay nakakuha ng impormasyon sa kapatid ni Kevin Riano na kung saan natatakot daw si Kevin na manatili sa pagtatago. Pinili niya na sumuko sa atin," he said.
"It’s a natural reaction for someone na nag-escape to fear na merong reprisal, but we can be assured that safe naman siya once na mabalik sa detention cell sa Bacoor City," Rigo added.
Police earlier arrested one of the 2 inmates who allegedly planned the escape.
Detainees who remained at large were identified as Ariel Villacampa, Marcelino Ruiz, Michael Salac, Junmarco Castro, Richard Manatad, Jason Daniel, and Roland Ramirez. - with reports from Kevin Manalo, ABS-CBN New
