MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday checked on the condition of a cop released by his New People’s Army captors last week.

Duterte visited PO1 Alfredo Basabica Jr. at the Philippine Air Force Tactical Operations Group – 11 headquarters in Davao City.

The cop was released by his NPA captors on Friday, July 28, a day before his supposed wedding to his fiancée Princess Kaye Dacoycoy.

Basbaica, a member of the 2nd Platoon of the Davao Oriental Provincial Public Safety Command, was seized by NPA rebels while he was on board a passenger bus on his way home along Kilometer 26 of Barangay Panansalan in Compostela, Compostela Valley last July 11.

The release of the cop was made amid the ongoing tension between the government and the Filipino communist rebels following the collapse of their talks. The President has cited the NPA rebels' continued attacks on government forces as main reason for cancelling the talks.
