MANILA - Members of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Drug Interdiction Task Group on Monday arrested a 50-year-old Bolivian national for attempting to smuggle into the country high-grade liquid cocaine neatly concealed inside the lining of her jacket.

The suspect was identified as Maria Hinojosa Bazan. She was arrested during a routine Customs baggage inspection.

She arrived ay NAIA Terminal 1 on board Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 628 from Addis Ababa in Ethiopia via Bangkok, Thailand.

Law enforcers from the Bureau of Immigration, National Bureau of Investigation, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, airport police, and Bureau of Customs have been staking out the terminal for several days after receiving information from their foreign counterparts.

Based on initial investigation, Bazan was given $5,000 to travel to the Philippines.

A jacket mixed with her personal belongings was placed in her checked-in luggage.

A Customs team found the high-grade liquid cocaine neatly stitched into the lining of her jacket.

The suspect denied knowing the content of her luggage.

Bazan will be charged with smuggling illegal drugs. - report from Raoul Esperas
