Councilors appointed to lead Ozamiz after mayor's death, vice's arrest

Two councilors of Ozamiz City on Monday will temporarily assume the posts of mayor and vice mayor following the death and arrest of their city's officials.

Second City Councilor Girlette Luansing will temporarily serve as Mayor of Ozamiz until arrested Vice Mayor Nova Princess Parojinog can legally fill in the position permanently vacated by her father, Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr.

Third councilor Michael Tagal will meanwhile assume the vice mayor post.

Parojinog Sr. was killed in a series of raids in San Roque Lawis, Ozamiz City early Sunday along with 14 others. Their camp allegedly resisted when they were served 6 search warrants for firearms at around 2:30 a.m.

Vice Mayor Parojinog meanwhile was arrested during the operation and were detained in the Ozamiz police office. She and her brother, have been transferred to Camp Crame.

Mayor Parojinog was one of the local government officials named in President Rodrigo Duterte's narco-list. He earlier denied any involvement in the illegal drugs trade.

His daughter, meanwhile, was reportedly in a relationship with high-profile Bilibid inmate Herbert Colangco. - report from Roxanne Arevalo, ABS-CBN News
