MANILA - Nearing the one-month point of his administration, Manila City Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso on Monday urged village officials, particularly those who did not support him in the recent midterm elections, to "move on" and work with him in his plans for the city.
Moreno's call, given at the weekly flag-raising ceremony at city hall Monday, began with an exhortation for barangays to do their part in the clean-up of the city's public spaces such as parks and streets.
He said village officials need not wait for a memo from the LGU to keep their areas clean.
"Tulungan niyo naman kami. Tigilan niyo na ang ampalaya. Move on. Mapait iyan. Ang ampalaya, mabuti iyan sa diabetes, pero sa paglilingkod sa bayan, masama iyan," he said.
"Move on na tayo. Tutal, may tungkulin din naman kayo sa inyong barangay, gampanan niyo lang. Eh di, masaya ang inyong kapitbahay."
Moreno, a three-term councilor and vice mayor of the city under 3 different mayors, won the 2019 election against his former running-mate Joseph Estrada.
'LINIS LINIS DIN 'PAG MAY TIME'
Moreno also asked the public to keep parks and streets clean following the city's efforts to rid them of illegal vendors and trash. Among these areas was the vicinity of the Kartilya ng Katipunan shrine near city hall which has been cleared of stalls and lighted with multiple bulbs at night.
However, some visitors continue to leave trash in the park area.
"Yung mga basura ibulsa niyo naman. Maglalagay ng sisidlan sa kapaligiran. Dumating kayo na malinis, umalis kayo na malinis. Sana pagmalasakitan niyo rin ang pinagmamalasakitan natin," Moreno said.
Moreno said city government employees should also do their part in keeping the city clean starting with their work spaces--with the mayor using the colloquial phrases he has become known for integrating in his messages.
"Linis linis din 'pag may time. Diyan lang sa ledgi ledgi, bandang nanka, bandang wakali, at bandang kodli," he said to laughter.
