MANILA - It's the People's Champ and 'Yorme' Isko together.
Fresh from his victory over American boxer Keith Thurman, Filipino boxing legend Sen. Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao paid a courtesy call on Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Monday after the latter congratulated him over his latest victory.
A Facebook live video showed Pacquiao and Moreno taking photos with the popular mayor's staff members.
Pacquiao praised Moreno at Monday's flag-raising ceremony at Manila City Hall, saying the 44-year-old hardworking mayor will go far.
"Baka hindi lang sa Maynila ang pagseserbisyuhan mo," he said.
Moreno and Pacquiao have similar rags-to-riches backgrounds: the mayor used to scavenge for food as a boy while the boxer used to heat stale bread and sell it as a boy so he could earn.
A Forbes article earlier said Pacquiao is earning as much as $20 million for the fight against Thurman.
Moreno earlier joined other political leaders in hailing Pacquiao's victory and held him as an example for others to overcome poverty through hard work.
“Tulad ng aking mga kapwa Batang Maynila, si Pacman ay galing sa hirap at nagsumikap sa maraming aspeto ng buhay, mapa-pulitikal man o sa larangan ng boksing,” Moreno said in a statement.
