MANILA - A week after threatening to remove the city's traffic enforcers after one of their peers figured in an extortion video, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno praised 3 members of the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau for turning down a bribe from a motorist.

Moreno presented the enforcers, identified as Eduardo Lambino, Kenneth Naval, and Edwin Trias, to city hall employees during his address at the weekly flag-raising ceremony outside city hall on Monday.

Moreno said the enforcers informed their office after they were offered money by a traffic violator they had apprehended.

He also announced onstage that the three would be made permanent employees of the bureau following their good deed.

Last week, Moreno sacked enforcer Ricardo Galit, who is now facing charges after being caught on video extorting money from a traffic violator.

The mayor said the regularization was also an encouragement to MTPB and other city employees to maintain integrity in their jobs and help the city solve corruption.

"Pipilitin ko sa maliit na kaparaanan na mailagay kayo sa maayos at mabigyan kayo ng pang habang buhay na gantipala."

Moreno added he had also ordered the city personnel office to regularize six job order employees after he learned they had been on contractual status for up to 10 years.

He called for patience from other city employees still on job order status, among them in the MTPB and the Department of Public Services, as he promised to work toward regularizing them all.
