MANILA--Tropical depression Carina continued to intensify Friday as it moves towards eastern Luzon.
In its 5 p.m. weather bulletin, state weather bureau PAGASA said "Carina" was last spotted 135 kilometers east northeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar as of 4 p.m.
It has maximum winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center.
It is forecast to move north-northwest at 11 kph.
Catanduanes, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar were placed under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal no. 1.
The three areas, as well as the rest of Visayas, Albay, Sorsogon and Masbate, may experience moderate to heavy rains, which may trigger flashfloods and landslides, PAGASA said.
"Carina" is expected to be 300 km east of Daet, Camarines Norte tomorrow afternoon.
