MANILA—Operations at Basco Airport and Jorge Abad Airport in Itbayat town in Batanes went on without a hitch despite a series of tremors in the province Saturday, an aviation official said.

"Airport operations in Basco and Itbayat are normal. All flights, scheduled flights, were able to land pati 'yung rescue operations namin," Basco Airport officer-in-charge Louie Asantor said in an interview on ANC.

Asantor said there's no reason to believe normal operations won't continue in the coming days.

"I think if the weather (Saturday) will go on tomorrow (Sunday), I think flights will be normal tomorrow," he said, adding that the Basco and Itbayat airports did not sustain any "visible damage" because of the quakes.

The Phivolcs said two earthquakes in the magnitude-5 range hit the northern islands on Saturday, apart from a number of aftershocks.

As of posting time, 8 people died and 100 others were injured as a result of the tremors.
