TUKURAN, Zamboanga del Sur – An estimated 20 houses and some road railings were damaged after a swollen river at Barangay Camanga here overflowed on Friday afternoon.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee proceeded to the affected barangay to give warnings and assist families evacuating from their flooded homes.
Heavy rains from the town’s mountainous areas inundated Barangays Camanga and Upper Bayao and also submerged ricefields.
The flood quickly receded after an hour.
Lance Galanida, officer-in-charge at state weather bureau Pagasa's office in Zamboanga, said the heavy downpour in some parts of the Zamboanga Peninsula was due to a localized thunderstorm.
