MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday said he will be spending the weekend in Davao because he finds staying in Malacañang boring.

"Okay ako dito, magpasyal pasyal. Pero kung sa Malacañang lang ako, maglibing kayo ng presidente sa sunod na taon. Mamatay ako diyan sa boredom," Duterte told members of the police and the military in the headquarters of the Southern Luzon Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in Camp Guillermo Nakar in Lucena City, Quezon.

The President added that he feels sad because he only has time to work.

"Malungkot ako masyado... trabaho ako hanggang gabi, alas tres magsakay ako ng barge, trabaho, tulog, tapos gisingin ako kasi maglipad ako," Duterte said.

According to Duterte, he gets bored in Malacañang because he opts not to go out so as not to create traffic jams.

He also said that he often uses the presidential chopper to avoid traffic, warning the military to be careful with their shooting practice as they might accidentally hit him.

"So wag kayong magpraktis praktis diyan sa mga kahoy kahoy, baka pagdaan ko ako ang mataaman. Wala na kayong commander-in-chief, patay," Duterte said.

Duterte said he will be going home to Davao City Thursday night, and he'll be returning to Manila by Sunday. He is also planning to spend ten days in his hometown.
