MANILA - The Moro Islamic Liberation Front said Friday it would hold public consultations on the Bangsamoro Organic Law over the weekend.

Tens of thousands are expected to attend the forum at the MILF's main camp called Darapanan in Sultan Kudarat province on Sunday, said the group's vice chairman, Ghazali Jaafar.

"There is a necessity for this consultation because it has been the policy of MILF that whatever major policy we adapt, there must be consultations. Our people must be consulted," he told ANC's Early Edition.

President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday signed the Bangsamoro Organic Law, fulfilling a key requirement under a 2014 peace deal between Manila and the MILF for a law that will grant wider self rule to the Muslim minority in the south.

MILF leaders will explain how the new Bangsamoro government will be different from the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao system, and how the new setup will benefit the Moros, he said.
