PUERTO PRINCESA CITY - Soldiers from the Armed Forces Western Command and alleged communist rebels clashed anew in Bataraza, Palawan Wednesday.
Troops from the Marine Battalion Landing Team 4 were conducting pursuit operations against the rebels when the firefight happened around 4 p.m. in Barangay Malihud, Bataraza.
According to Western Command, the firefight lasted for about an hour.
Troops said they saw blood stains in the clash site following the firefight, indicating that some rebels may have been wounded. There were no casualties from the government side.
WesCom said the suspected communist insurgents were trying to flee from the military's blockading troops and were heading towards Rizal town.
Last July 21, soldiers and alleged New People's Army rebels clashed in Sitio Kambingan, Malihud. The second encounter happened on July 23, also in the same barangay, but in the area of Sitio Ilyan.
Two major campgrounds of the NPA have been captured by WesCom in Southern Palawan.
