MANILA - Manila Mayor Isko Moreno conducted a surprise inspection in stores around the university belt in Mendiola on Friday, a day after he announced a liquor ban near school zones.
Moreno went inside a convenience store and spoke to personnel about its liquor products, a picture from the Manila Public Information Office showed.
Under Ordinance No. 3532 signed by Moreno on Thursday, alcoholic beverages may not be sold in any establishment located within a school's 200-meter radius.
"Puwede pa rin kayong magtinda ng chicha. Puro inka (kain) na lang, wala nang yangga (ganyan)," Moreno earlier said.
(You can still sell snacks. Students can only eat, but not drink alcoholic products.)
"Tapos na ang maliligayang araw ng cutting classes," he said in jest. (The days of cutting classes are gone).
