ILOILO CITY - The city council here unanimously approved Friday a resolution declaring a state of calamity due to the rising number of dengue cases.
a total of 1,119 dengue cases were recorded from January 1 to July 20, 2019 with 9 deaths, data from the Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit of the City Health Office showed.
With the declaration, the local government can now use its quick response fund for emergency purchases of fogging machines, larvicides, dengue test kits and other equipment.
Councilor Lady Julie Grace Baronda said dengue patients could avail of financial assistance from the City Social Welfare and Development Office.
The city government recently launched a massive clean-up campaign to destroy breeding grounds of dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
Last Wednesday, the provincial board placed Iloilo province under a statement of calamity also because of the surge in the number of dengue cases.
The province has recorded 23 deaths out of 6,806 dengue cases from Jan. 1 to July 13, data from the Provincial Health Office showed.
