House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas scolded an employee of Bureau of Customs for calling House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez an "imbecile" in a Facebook post.
Fariñas raised the issue during a hearing of the House Ways and Means Committee which involved the Bureau of Customs.
"This was sent to me by a lot of members, they were taken aback. I couldn't believe it myself that a government official would do it," he said.
On June 16, Mandy Mercado Anderson, a consultant and head executive assistant to Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon, posted on her personal Facebook page an article about Alvarez' threat to dissolve the Court of Appeals over their release order for the six Ilocos Norte provincial officials who were detained by the Lower House.
In her caption, he called the lawmaker an "imbecile" for even thinking of doing so.
Anderson, to her defense, said she only posted her personal opinion.
"For the record, this is my own personal page but that was not meant to be a political statement but rather just a personal feeling," she told Fariñas.
She eventually apologized to the lawmakers but not to the speaker.
