The Philippine National Police—Anti-Kidnapping Group expressed dismay over the death of kidnap-rape-slay suspect Larry Herrera after he allegedly grabbed a police escort's gun and shot himself in the head while on the way to his detention cell at the AKG building.
With Herrera dead, PNP-AKG Director Senior Superintendent Glenn Dumlao said they would no longer be able to bring their case to court.
“Not only his judicial confession, merong CCTV, witnesses doon sa sementeryo, palengke, schools. So airtight talaga iyong kaso namin,” he said.
The investigation showed Herrera’s alleged pedophiliac tendencies.
“Accordingly, sa intel namin, sa background namin nagkaroon din siya ng rape incident doon, naayos lang niya and them lumipat siya sa Nueva Ecija,” Dumlao said.
Herrera was booted out of a compound where he was allowed to live in San Mariano, Nueva Ecija, when he allegedly molested the child of the owner.
“Then iyong unang umampon sa kanya, iyong tita, stepfather ng biktima, pinalayas siya. Nahuli niyang minomolestiya iyong anak niya and kasama dito sa statement niya kaya pinalayas. Inampon naman doon sa kabila iyong pamangkin kasi kailangan ng karpintero,” Dumlao explained.
Meanwhile, National Police Commission vice-chairman Rogelio Casurao lauded the police for taking immediate action in apprehending Herrera, who allegedly kidnapped, raped and murdered an 8-year old girl who happened to be the granddaughter of a Napolcom director.
For Casurao, criminals such as Herrera deserve the death penalty.
