Monsoon rains expected in Metro Manila, eastern regions

MANILA - Light to moderate rains and thunderstorms were forecast across the country, including Metro Manila, on Monday due to the southwest monsoon, weather bureau PAGASA said.

A low pressure area, or brewing storm, was also spotted east of the Visayas while two other storms swirled outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, PAGASA said.

Rains are expected in the Bicol, Mimaropa, Bicol, Caraga, Davao and Soccsksargen regions, Bataan and Zambales, it said.

Cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms are expected in the capital, where President Rodrigo Dutere will deliver his second state of the nation address in the afternoon, PAGASA said.

At 3 a.m., the low pressure area was located 470 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar. Tropical Storm Sonca was spotted 755 kilometers north northwest of Pagasa Island. Typhoon Noru was located 3,110 kilometers east northeast of Basco, Batanes.
