MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte's first State of the Nation Address (SONA) will incite love of country in every Filipino, Malacañang claimed Sunday.
"The address of the President, personally written by the President, will be a very powerful speech that will awaken the patriot in every Filipino," Presidential Communications Office Secretary Martin Andanar said.
"Ayoko pong mag-exaggerate pero first time I read the speech, it made me cry. Ganoon po kaganda, ganoon nakakabagbag damdamin ang speech ng Pangulo po natin," he added.
Andanar also shared that the historic speech is expected to run for some 38 minutes on Monday, and its draft has been revised for the 10th time so far.
Brillante Mendoza, an international award-winning filmmaker who will direct the event, earlier said the public will feel like they are talking directly with the President when he delivers his SONA.
The SONA will be imbued with the "mood of reality" to match the 71-year-old leader's tough-talking style and will ditch the elaborate video and slideshow presentations of his predecessors, Brillante said.
Organizers have also scrapped red carpet arrivals for the event and scaled back the dress code to "business attire" consistent with Duterte’s no-frills style.
