MANILA - Another staff of the House of Representatives died Thursday morning due to COVID-19, the chamber's secretary-general said.
The incident came as President Rodrigo Duterte is scheduled to physically deliver his 5th State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 27 at the Batasang Pambansa.
The House employee was earlier identified as the House's 18th case of the novel coronavirus and served in its Bills and Index Service, secretary general Jose Luis Montales said.
The 52-year-old male staff, who had hypertension, had been working from home since June 18 but went to their office on June 29 to submit some documents, Montales added.
He underwent coronavirus testing on July 17 after experiencing symptoms and tested positive 3 days later, according to the secretary general.
In March, the House of Representatives reported one staff who contracted the virus became the country's 8th COVID-19 fatality.
