MANILA - A potential leadership change in the House of Representatives is an "internal" matter, Malacañang said Monday, following reports two of its allies would battle for the post.
Pampanga Representative and former President Gloria Arroyo is reportedly gearing to replace Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, according to multiple sources.
Alvarez had traded barbs publicly with President Rodrigo Duterte's daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, over her establishment of a regional political party.
"Malinaw po na ang liderato ng kamara ay isang internal na bagay para sa kamara de representante at hindi po nanghihimasok ang malakanyang dyan," Roque told Radio dzIQ.
(It's clear that the leadership of the House of Representatives is an internal matter and Malacanang will not meddle in their affairs.)
Arroyo is on her final term as representative of Pampanga’s second district. She was freed from detention in 2016 after the Supreme Court nullified evidence lodged against her in a plunder case.
