MANILA (UPDATE) -- Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on Monday threatened to fire all traffic enforcers in the capital if they fail to identify their colleague who was caught on surveillance video while allegedly extorting money from an erring motorist.
"Bibigyan ko kayo ng isang araw ha. Pag hindi n'yo itinuro sa akin iyung nasa video, lahat kayo tatanggalin ko," he told members of the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau.
(I will give you one day. If you do not tell me the identity of the enforcer in the video, I will sack all of you.)
"'Pag hindi kayo nagsumbong ng kapwa ninyong nangongotong, damay-damay tayong lahat dahil ang pananahimik ninyo'y pagpayag ninyo," he added, wagging a finger in a video posted by the city's public information office.
(If you do not point me to your extorting member, you'd suffer the same fate because your silence is equal to agreement.)
The erring officer, he said, should have just fined the 3 people flagged for riding one motorcycle.
The traffic enforcer, identified as Ricardo Galit, has been arrested and stripped of his badge by Moreno.
The mayor added that they are preparing charges against the officer.
As of posting, the video of the extortion has garnered 90,000 views and more than 2,000 shares.
