MANILA - Halfway into his term, President Rodrigo Duterte will focus on "malasakit" (concern) for the Filipinos without sacrificing his campaign against crime and illegal drugs, a Cabinet official said Monday.

"If you look at the President, consistent naman siya no, ‘tapang at 'malasakit’ even when he began his term in 2016. He’s been known for the 'tapang' aspect," Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles told ANC's Early Edition.

"In the next 3 years of his administration, we'll be focusing now on 'malasakit' without forgetting the 'tapang' aspect."

Nograles cited the recent passage of the Magna Carta for the Poor, which requires state agencies to provide "full access" to government services to the poor.

"I think the President signing the magna carta, I think the focus now would be adequate food, water, education, housing and health," he said.

The administration's anti-narcotics drive will still be "relentless, chilling" as the President said in his 3rd State of the Nation Address, according to Nograles.

"All these efforts to reduce hunger, poverty, education, health, social welfare will all go to waste if the illegal drugs comes into play in the community and even in our families," he said.
