MANILA - A policeman accused of selling illegal drugs was killed in an encounter with fellow officers in Paluan, Occidental Mindoro on Saturday.
The police Counter Intelligence Task Force (CITF) had validated intelligence reports that the suspect, PO3 Marco Hashim Alegre, was supplying drugs to his areas of assignment, said unit chief Senior Supt. Romeo Caramat, Jr.
An operative, he said, bought P1,000 worth of suspected shabu from Alegre in Barangay Marikit.
The suspect, however, allegedly resisted arrest and fired at operatives, prompting them to retaliate and kill him.
Alegre was in the list of Occidental Mindoro's high value targets and went AWOL in August 2016. He returned to active duty at the Mimaropa police headquarters last May, according to the CITF.
No operative was wounded in the shootout against the suspect.
