Barangay chairman, minors arrested in Maguindanao buy-bust

A barangay chairman and 7 others were arrested for alleged possession of illegal drugs and firearms in the municipality of General Salipada K. Pendatun, Maguindanao on Saturday.

Midconding barangay chair Datumama Abdul was arrested, along with the other suspects identified as Darex Maslamama, Datukung Membaba, Mujahid Membida, and four minors.

Authorities seized 3 fragmentation grenades, 2 rounds of 40mm explosives, 5 rounds of .50-caliber ammunition, 4 sachets of suspected "shabu," and drug paraphernalia at Abdul's home.

Lt. Col. Harold Cabunoc, commander of the 33rd Infantry Battalion, said Abdul was on their drug personalities watchlist.

Abdul, however, denied allegations he is involved in illegal-drug activities.

The suspects face charges of illegal possession of explosives and ammunition, and possession of illegal drugs.
