PNP: Cops sick with coronavirus reach 1,600 with 36 new infections

MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) said Tuesday 36 more of its personnel contracted COVID-19, raising the total tally of infections in the organization to 1,600.

The number of those who recovered from COVID-19 also went up by 2 to 610, latest figures showed. The death toll in the police force stood at 9.

The 205,000-strong organization is also monitoring 727 probable carriers of the virus. Some 1,767 others are under observation for suspicion of having caught the disease.

The Philippines on Tuesday crossed the 70,000-mark in COVID-19 cases, with 1,951 new infections reported by the health department. The tally includes 1,837 people who succumbed to COVID-19 while 23,281 have recovered from the disease.
