MANILA -- Some 194 lawmakers are expected to attend the breakfast meeting of Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte on Monday, ahead of the opening of the 18th Congress, a lawmaker said Sunday.
The meeting comes amid speculation that presumptive Speaker Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano would face a coup.
Albay Rep. Joey Salceda said the younger Duterte could be the congressmen's "more direct line" to President Rodrigo Duterte.
"For us, the congressmen, it’s one more line, one more direct line to the President to get our recommendations, the consensus of our districts more realistically," he told ANC.
The President's eldest son earlier said there could be a "coup d'etat" for the House Speakership but Cayetano on Friday claimed Paolo has agreed to become his deputy speaker.
The two will be holding separate breakfast meetings on Monday, while Cayetano has called for a meeting at 4 p.m. Sunday.
