BASILAN (UPDATE) - President Rodrigo Duterte visited military troops in Isabela City, Basilan on Thursday.
Duterte had a security briefing with the 104th Army Brigade in Tabiawan, Isabela City. He was accompanied by Armed Forces Chief Ricardo Visaya and Special Assistant to the President Christopher Go.
Duterte also met with the local leaders of Basilan.
Duterte's Basilan visit came amid the ongoing military operations against the Abu Sayyaf Group in the province.
Recent clashes between government troops and the Abu Sayyaf Group have caused more than 3,000 families from three municipalities to flee their homes.
Duterte also visited Zamboanga City to meet with soldiers and local policemen.
He then went to the Camp Navarro General Hospital to acknowledge the heroism of 16 soldiers wounded while fighting bandits in Basilan and Sulu. The 16 soldiers were given medals for their heroism.
