MANILA-- Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso said the capital city's local government has filed charges against a barangay chairman who was involved in cockfighting.
Eyewitnesses saw the barangay chairman involved in a cockfight in Tondo even if the city was under general community quarantine, Domagoso said. He did not name the said official.
"Mayroon po tayong bagong kinasuhan na chairman. Nahuli po silang nagsasabong at nakakuha po tayo ng mga testigo na talagang naglaro sila ng sabong," he said during a Palace press briefing.
(We filed charges against a barangay chairman. He was caught while cockfighting and we also have witnesses.)
Cockfighting remains prohibited in GCQ areas and even in modified general community quarantine areas.
The Manila mayor added that he also saw a video of Manila barangay officials engaged in public drinking.
He assured the public that the city continues to go after "irresponsible" barangay officials as the country continues to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Tuloy-tuloy po yung ating pagkastigo sa mga iresponsableng barangay official, while at the same time, pinupuri naman natin yung iba," he said.
(We continue to go after irresponsible barangay officials while we continue to praise those who follow.)
