MANILA — A 3-year-old child from Malabang, Lanao del Sur died Sunday due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), bringing the death toll in the province to four, the provincial government said.
The patient was admitted at the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center (CRMC) in Cotabato City for pneumonia, and tested positive for COVID-19. He died several hours after admission.
Lanao del Sur has recorded 158 confirmed COVID-19 cases, of which, 149 involve former locally stranded individuals and overseas Filipino workers who returned in the province from June 1 to present.
But the active cases are only 46, of which, 96 percent are asymptomatic. The patients are isolated and being treated at the Amai Pakpak Medical Center, CRMC, Cotabato Sanitarium and in various community quarantine facilities in the province.
The provincial government said 108 patients, or 68 percent of its total cases, have "fully recovered without complication."
Meanwhile, a suspected COVID-19 case is being observed at the APMC, the provincial government said.
"We enjoin everyone to strictly follow all health advisories and comply with quarantine protocols. The cooperation and support of each one of us is critical in our fight against this pandemic," the provincial government said.
The Philippines reported 2,241 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing the country’s total to 67,456, with 22,465 recoveries and 1,831 fatalities.
