MANILA—To make the capital safe, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on Friday called on the police to arrest wanted criminals.
"Hanapin niyo lahat ang mga ‘wanted’ sa Maynila dahil ayaw ko na may ‘wanted’ na kapitbahay ang kapitbahay ko," he said in a speech during the induction of officers of Rotary Club of Bagumbayan-Manila.
In his first few weeks in office, Moreno said the local police have caught some of the city's wanted suspects.
The new mayor also ordered the police to uphold respect for human rights of drug suspects while conducting operations.
While he supports the government's anti-narcotics campaign, Moreno views drug addiction as a health problem.
