MANILA - Davao Region's health regional office is expecting to add testing centers, as the number of cases in the region surged to more than 900.
DOH Region XI director Annabelle Yumang said some 16,000 people in the region have already been tested for the virus that causes COVID-19.
"16,621 na katao ang na-examine sa buong region. At umaasa pa rin tayo na sa susunod na araw, madadagdagan ang ating laboratory to test sa Region 11," Yumang said in a press briefing aired on state television.
(16,621 people were examined in the whole region. And we are expecting that in the coming days, we will add laboratories for testing in Region 11.)
The region currently has 3 accredited COVID-19 testing centers: Southern Philippines Medical Center, Davao Regional Medical Center and one private diagnostic center.
The number of recorded coronavirus infection cases in Davao Region is now at 912, Yumang said, of whom, 496 have recovered and 42 died.
The active cases are 374, involving mostly former locally stranded individuals or overseas Filipino Workers who have returned home to the region.
Yumang said contact-tracing efforts are also ongoing, including training of contact-tracers.
"As of today, may 5,248 na na-train. So kailangan na lang ang natirang 1,406. At ang target namin na ma-train itong 1,406 na mga contact tracer, (is) by July 30," she said.
