MANILA - Aklan Governor Florencio Miraflores and his wife, former Ibajay Mayor Maria Lourdes Miraflores, have been charged for supposedly violating the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.
The couple allegedly failed to declare properties in their Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth.
Governor Miraflores is facing 4 counts for SALNs from 2006 to 2009 while former Mayor Miraflores is facing only 3 counts, for SALNs from 2007 to 2009, according to an information filed by graft investigation and prosecution officer Rachel Cariaga-Favila at the Sandiganbayan on June 29.
The charges were approved by Overall Deputy Ombudsman Melchor Arthur Carandang on June 5.
According to the Ombudsman, the failure of the couple to declare their properties in their SALNs “caused public damage and prejudice to public interest.”
From 2006 to 2007, the couple failed to declare P6.160 million worth of investments in the Rural Bank of Ibajay, Inc.; an Isuzu Elf; a Mazda pick-up; a Nissan Safari Wagon, and a Kawasaki motorcycle.
From 2008 to 2009, they again failed to declare the motor vehicles.
The Ombudsman recommended a bail amount of P30,000 per case.
