ILOCOS SUR - Two suspected drug sellers were shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Ilocos Sur.
Based on initial investigation, Melvin Velarde, alias "Mabin," was waiting for buses that he will clean when two unidentified males on a motorcycle approached him and shot him several times.
Velarde was brought to Magsingal District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Authorities recovered seven empty shells and a slug of a caliber .45 in the crime scene.
Police records show that Velarde is tagged as a drug pusher in the area.
"Malaki ang posibilidad na may kinalaman ito sa droga, sa ngayon kasi nagsusurender na sila, lalo na ‘yang mga small time pushers. Kaya ang mga big time pushers naman pinapatay na ang mga small time pushers para hindi masiwalat ‘yung mga modus nila," Police Inspector Arcadio Viloria said.
Meanwhile, another alleged drug pusher in Sta. Maria Ilocos Sur was shot inside their boarding house in Santa Maria town.
The victim, identified as John Paul Camangeg, was watching TV with his family when the gunman forcibly opened the door and fired at him several times.
Camangeg sustained a bullet wound to the head, leading to instantaneous death.
He was among the supposed drug users who surrendered to the police last week.
