US-Philippine relations have been rocky since President Duterte took office. Here are the stories making the headlines on ANC today:

Minding your own business

The call of US lawmakers to repeal the Anti-Terrorism Law is vexing local officials. The Palace said American lawmakers should leave the Anti-Terror Law alone. Senate President Tito Sotto said the lawmakers should mind their own business.

No rebuke

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines is now past 60,000. But President Duterte has so far spared Health Sec. Francisco Duque from any rebuke. Meanwhile, there are reports of nurses resigning from hospitals in Cebu City.

Laid off

The network has shut down its sports, current affairs and regional divisions, leaving many employees jobless. The Palace said the Labor Department should give assistance to ABS-CBN workers who lost their jobs. Meanwhile, the Palace said the network’s frequency can be used for distance learning.

Picking on someone your own size

Sen. Bong Go said the cybercrime complaint against a college student who allegedly shared what could be a libelous post has nothing to do with freedom of expression.
