MANILA-- Thirty-one Filipinos in Kuwait have died due to COVID-19, Philippine Charge d' Affaires Charleson Hermosura said Thursday.
Among the fatalities were 4 healthcare workers, Hermosura said.
"Nakakalungkot lamang po kasi may 31 na namatay including 4 na healthcare workers na Filipino po dito sa Kuwait," he said in a virtual press briefing.
The official added that they have received a report that some 300 Filipinos caught the virus but around 260 have already recovered.
There are over 23,000 displaced Filipino workers in Kuwait due to the coronavirus pandemic, of which 5,011 received financial aid from the Department of Labor and Employment.
There are 8,915 Filipinos abroad infected with COVID-19 as of July 15, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs. This includes 618 deaths and 5,311 recoveries.
